"Monks, for a monk possessed of six qualities, whatever night or day comes, only deterioration is to be expected in wholesome mental states, not growth.
With which six?
Here, monks, a monk is greedy, with vexation, discontented with whatsoever requisites of robes, almsfood, lodging and medicine for the sick, is faithless, is immoral, is lazy, is unmindful, is unwise.
Monks, for a monk possessed of these six qualities, whatever night or day comes, only deterioration is to be expected in wholesome mental states, not growth.
"Monks, for a monk possessed of six qualities, whatever night or day comes, only growth is to be expected in wholesome mental states, not decline. With which six? Here, monks, a monk is not greedy, without vexation, content with whatsoever requisites of robes, almsfood, lodging and medicine for the sick, has faith, is moral, is putting forth strenuous energy, is mindful, is wise. Monks, for a monk possessed of these six qualities, whatever night or day comes, only growth is to be expected in wholesome mental states, not decline." The tenth.
