Commentary on the Biography of the Elder Bhaddāli and Others

In the forty-second chapter, the first life history, the second life history, and the third life history are easily understood in accordance with the method.

106. In the fourth life history, the life history of the Venerable Elder Madhumaṃsadāyaka, beginning with "In the city of Bandhumatī." Therein, "a pork-butcher" means one earning his livelihood by selling pork. "Having cooked the offal" means having cooked the meat of the spleen and lungs, I poured it over and put it in with honey and meat. Having filled the bowl with that meat and having given it to the community of monks, by that meritorious action, in this arising of a Buddha, he attained arahantship - this is the meaning.

The fifth life history of the Elder Nāgapallava, the sixth life history of the Elder Ekadīpiya, the seventh life history of the Elder Ucchaṅgapupphiya, the eighth life history of the Elder Yāgudāyaka, the ninth life history of the Elder Patthodanadāyaka, and the tenth life history of the Elder Mañcadāyaka - all is easily understood.

The commentary on the forty-second chapter is complete.
