The Life History of the Elder Ekapadumiya
1.
Making clear this or that existence, he helped many people to cross.
2.
Having plunged into a natural lake, I play the play of swans.
3.
Above a natural lake, the Conqueror came at that very moment.
4.
Having cut the lotus at the stalk, the hundred-petalled, delightful.
5.
Having lifted up in the sky, I venerated the foremost Buddha.
6.
The Teacher, standing in the sky, gave me thanksgiving.
7.
For a hundred thousand cosmic cycles, you do not go to the nether world.'
8.
Having praised my action, went where he wished.
9.
I do not know of an unfortunate realm, this is the fruit of honouring the Buddha.
10.
The six higher knowledges have been realized, the Buddha's teaching has been fulfilled."
Thus the Venerable Elder Ekapadumiya spoke these verses.

I saw the stainless Buddha, seated in the mountain caves.

Endowed with the marks and characteristics, having seen him, I was delighted.
13.
Three waterlily flowers, I placed upon his head.
14.
Having become respectful, I departed facing north.
15.
Having fallen between the rocks, I reached the destruction of life.
16.
Having abandoned the human body, I went to Tāvatiṃsa.
17.
Five hundred times I was a universal monarch.
18.
I do not know of an unfortunate realm, this is the fruit of honouring the Buddha.

Thus the Venerable Elder Tīṇuppalamāliya spoke these verses.

Having seen the destruction of the three clingings, the flag was raised by me.

Having abandoned the human body, I went to Tāvatiṃsa.

Five hundred times I was a universal monarch.

I experience my own action, well done by myself in the past.

I do not know of an unfortunate realm, this is the fruit of giving a banner.
25.
I could cover with linen cloth, this is the fruit of what was done by me.
26.
Thus the Venerable Elder Dhajadāyaka spoke these verses.

The Life History of the Elder Tikiṅkaṇipūjaka

There I saw a rag-robe, stuck on a tree-top.
28.
Joyful, with a joyful mind, I venerated the rag-robe.

I do not know of an unfortunate realm, this is the fruit of the three flowers.

Thus the Venerable Elder Tikiṅkaṇipūjaka spoke these verses.

The self-become one named Nārada, a master dwelling at the root of a tree then.

Having cleared the walking path, I gave to the self-born one.

And seventy-four times, I exercised divine kingship.

Principality over a district, extensive, incalculable by counting.
35.
With a thousand pillars, incomparable, a mansion with radiance.
36.
In the Dispensation of the Blessed One Gotama, I went forth.
37.
Like an elephant having cut the bond, I dwell without mental corruptions.
38.
Thus the Venerable Elder Naḷāgārika spoke these verses.
The life history of the elder Naḷāgārika is the fifth.

The Buddha named Sudassana dwelt in the mountain caves.

I saw the stainless Buddha, a crosser of the mental floods, without mental corruptions.

And a Buddha named Sambhava, dwelt in the open air then.

Having held it for one day, I went again to the dwelling.

The Fully Self-Enlightened One named Upatissa walked up and down in the open air.

Having seen that god of gods, the Self-Become One, the unconquered.

For the purpose of sitting, I gave a handful of grass to the Buddha.

Having paid respect to the self-enlightened, I departed facing north.
52.
Being struck by the lion, there I deceased.
53.
Well released like the speed of an arrow, I went to the heavenly world.
54.
With a thousand storeys, a hundred pinnacles, adorned with flags, made of green gold.
55.
Crowded by heavenly maidens, I rejoiced, desiring sensual pleasures.
56.
Having come to human existence, I have attained the elimination of mental corruptions.
57.
I do not know of an unfortunate realm, this is the fruit of a handful of grass.
58.
Thus the Venerable Elder Tiṇamuṭṭhidāyaka spoke these verses.

I saw the stainless Buddha, a crosser of the mental floods, without mental corruptions.

With a confident mind, glad at heart, I gave to the self-born one.

I saw the stainless Buddha, like the luminous sun with golden rays.

Shining like the healing star, I made a single salutation with joined palms.

I do not know of an unfortunate realm, this is the fruit of the salutation with joined palms.

Thus the Venerable Elder Ekañjaliya spoke these verses.
