The Chapter on Bodhivandana
1.
The Life History of the Elder Bodhivandaka
1.
Having arranged my upper robe on one shoulder and made salutation with joined palms, I venerated the trumpet-flower tree.
2.
Pure within, pure without, well liberated, without mental corruptions.
3.
As if face to face with the self-enlightened, I venerated the trumpet-flower tree.
4.
I do not know of an unfortunate realm, this is the fruit of homage.
5.
The six higher knowledges have been realized, the Buddha's teaching has been fulfilled."
Thus the Venerable Elder Bodhivandaka spoke these verses.
The life history of the Elder Bodhivandaka is the first.

The Life History of the Elder Pāṭalipupphiya

Honoured by his pupils, the Conqueror entered Bandhuma.
7.
Wishing to bathe my head, I went to the river ford.
8.
Like a blazing blue water-lily, like a burning fire.
9.
Going, the foremost of ascetics, honoured by the community of monks.
10.
Having taken three flowers, I venerated the foremost Buddha.
11.
I do not know of an unfortunate realm, this is the fruit of honouring the Buddha.

Thus the Venerable Elder Pāṭalipupphiya spoke these verses.

The Life History of the Elder Tīṇuppalamāliya

I saw the stainless Buddha, seated in the mountain caves.

Endowed with the marks and characteristics, having seen him, I was delighted.
15.
Three waterlily flowers, I placed upon his head.
16.
Having become respectful, I departed facing north.
17.
Having fallen between the rocks, I reached the destruction of life.
18.
Having abandoned the former birth, I went to Tāvatiṃsa.
19.
Five hundred times I was a universal monarch.
20.
I do not know of an unfortunate realm, this is the fruit of honouring the Buddha.

Thus the Venerable Elder Tīṇuppalamāliya spoke these verses.

The Life History of the Elder Paṭṭipupphiya

All the people having assembled, they carried out his body.

With a confident mind, glad at heart, I venerated with a paṭṭi flower.

I do not know of an unfortunate realm, this is the fruit of honouring the body.

Like an elephant having cut the bond, I dwell without mental corruptions.

The three true knowledges have been attained, the Buddha's teaching has been fulfilled.

Thus the Venerable Elder Paṭṭipupphiya spoke these verses.
The life history of the Elder Paṭṭipupphiya is the fourth.
