The Settlement of Legal Cases (Analysis of the Nuns' Rules)

Now, ladies, these seven principles for the settlement of legal cases

come up for recitation.

1242. For the settling and appeasement of legal cases as they arise, the verdict in the presence should be given, the verdict of innocence should be given, the verdict of past insanity should be given, action should be taken according to acknowledgment, the decision of the majority, the decision for specific depravity, covering over with grass.

Ladies, the seven principles for the settlement of legal cases have been recited. Therein I ask the ladies - "Are you pure in this?" For the second time I ask - "Are you pure in this?" For the third time I ask - "Are you pure in this?" The ladies are pure in this, therefore they are silent, thus I remember it.

The principles for the settlement of legal cases are concluded.

Ladies, the introduction has been recited. The eight offences involving expulsion have been recited. The seventeen offences entailing initial and subsequent meetings of the Community have been recited. The thirty rules involving expiation with forfeiture have been recited. The one hundred and sixty-six rules involving expiation have been recited. The eight rules involving acknowledgement have been recited. The training rules have been recited. The seven principles for the settlement of legal cases have been recited. This much of that Blessed One's, having come down in the discourses, included in the discourses, comes up for recitation fortnightly. Therein all should train in unity, being joyful, not disputing.
