The Chapter on Kumuda
1.
The Life History of the Elder Kumudamāliya
Born there, I was a demon, of terrible form and great power.
2.
And I gather those flowers, for the assembly of the powerful one then.
3.
Having seen the contracted flowers, came to my presence.
4.
And having held up all the flowers, I placed them upon the Buddha.
5.
Endowed with a roof of that extent, the Tathāgata went.
6.
I do not know of an unfortunate realm, this is the fruit of honouring the Buddha.
7.
Named Sahassaratha, wheel-turning monarchs of great power.
8.
The six higher knowledges have been realized, the Buddha's teaching has been fulfilled."
Thus the Venerable Elder Kumudamāliya spoke these verses.
The Life History of the Elder Kumudamāliya is the first.

The Life History of the Elder Nisseṇidāyaka
For the purpose of ascending the mansion, a ladder was made by me.
10.
I bear my final body in the teaching of the Fully Self-Enlightened One.

Thus the Venerable Elder Nisseṇidāyaka spoke these verses.

The Life History of the Elder Rattipupphiya
I saw the Buddha Vipassī, the god of gods, the lord of men.
Having taken it up with its root, I presented it to the great sage.

I do not know of an unfortunate realm, this is the fruit of the gift of flowers.
16.
Endowed with the seven treasures, I was a king of great power.
17.
Thus the Venerable Elder Rattipupphiya spoke these verses.
The Life History of the Elder Rattipupphiya is the third.

The Life History of the Elder Udapānadāyaka
And having given almsfood, I dedicated it then.

I do not know of an unfortunate realm, this is the fruit of the well.

The Life History of the Elder Sīhāsanadāyaka
With a confident mind, glad at heart, I gave a lion's seat.

Having made offerings there, many people are extinguished.

For a hundred thousand cosmic cycles, I was not reborn in an unfortunate realm.

Named Siluccaya, kings, universal monarchs.

Thus the Venerable Elder Sīhāsanadāyaka spoke these verses.

The Life History of the Elder Maggadattika
For the sake of happiness in the present life, walked up and down in the open air.

With a confident mind, glad at heart, having paid homage, I scattered flowers.

Named Pupphacchadaniya by name, universal monarchs of great power.

Thus the Venerable Elder Maggadattika spoke these verses.

The Life History of the Elder Ekadīpiya
With a confident mind, glad at heart, I gave a single lamp.

I do not know of an unfortunate realm, this is the fruit of giving a lamp.

Candābhā by name, wheel-turning monarchs of great power.

Thus the Venerable Elder Ekadīpiya spoke these verses.

And near its bank, the Self-Become One dwelt then.
With a confident mind, glad at heart, I placed it upon the Buddha.

Eight were kings, wheel-turning monarchs of great power.
38.
Thus the Venerable Elder Maṇipūjaka spoke these verses.
The Life History of the Elder Maṇipūjaka is the eighth.

The Life History of the Elder Tikicchaka
Bringing happiness to the multitude, for the sick who were in pain.

With a confident mind, glad at heart, I gave medicine then.
41.
Asoka by name, the attendant of Vipassī.
42.
I do not know of an unfortunate realm, this is the fruit of medicine.
43.
Endowed with the seven treasures, a wheel-turning monarch of great power.
44.
Thus the Venerable Elder Tikicchaka spoke these verses.
The Life History of the Elder Tikicchaka is the ninth.

The Life History of the Elder Saṅghupaṭṭhāka
With a confident mind, glad at heart, I attended on the highest Community.

I do not know of an unfortunate realm, this is the fruit of attendance.
47.
Accomplished with the seven treasures, wheel-turning monarchs of great power.
48.
Thus the Venerable Elder Saṅghupaṭṭhāka spoke these verses.
The Life History of the Elder Saṅghupaṭṭhāka is the tenth.
The Kumuda Chapter is the eighteenth.
