The Discourse on Uttara

The origin at Rājagaha.
Standing to one side, Uttara the young god spoke this verse in the presence of the Blessed One:
"Life is swept along, short is the lifespan,
For one swept along by ageing, there are no shelters.
Seeing this danger in death,
One should do meritorious deeds that bring happiness."
"Life is swept along, short is the lifespan,
For one swept along by ageing, there are no shelters.
Seeing this danger in death,
One seeking peace should abandon worldly gains."
