The Forty Discourses on Giving and Support Regarding Hot Cloud Devas

At Sāvatthī.
Seated to one side, that monk said this to the Blessed One -
"What, venerable sir, is the cause, what is the condition, whereby someone here, upon the body's collapse at death, is reborn in the company of the hot rain cloud gods... etc.
in the company of the cloud rain cloud gods... etc.
in the company of the wind rain cloud gods... etc.
is reborn in the company of the rain rain cloud gods?"
"Here, monk, someone practises good conduct by body, practises good conduct by speech, practises good conduct by mind.
He has heard:
'The rain rain cloud gods are long-lived, beautiful, and abounding in happiness.'
He thinks thus:
'Oh, may I, upon the body's collapse at death, be reborn in the company of the rain rain cloud gods!'
He gives food, etc.
he gives material for lighting.
He, upon the body's collapse at death, is reborn in the company of the rain rain cloud gods.
This, monk, is the cause, this is the condition, whereby someone here, upon the body's collapse at death, is reborn in the company of the rain rain cloud gods."
