"Monks, one possessed of six qualities, even while hearing the Good Teaching, is incapable of entering upon the fixed course, the right path, in wholesome mental states.
With which six?
When the Teaching and discipline proclaimed by the Truth-finder is being taught, he does not listen, does not lend an ear, does not set his mind on understanding, grasps the meaning wrongly, discards the meaning, and possesses a conviction that is not in conformity [with the teaching].
Monks, one possessed of these six qualities, even while hearing the Good Teaching, is incapable of entering upon the fixed course, the right path, in wholesome mental states.
"Monks, one possessed of six qualities, while hearing the Good Teaching, is capable of entering upon the fixed course, the right path, in wholesome mental states. With which six? When the Teaching and discipline proclaimed by the Truth-finder is being taught, he listens, lends an ear, sets his mind on understanding, grasps benefit, neglects harm, and is possessed of acceptance in conformity with the teaching. Monks, one possessed of these six qualities, while hearing the Good Teaching, is capable of entering upon the fixed course, the right path, in wholesome mental states." The fourth.
