The First Discourse on Pajjunna's Daughter
39.
Thus have I heard -
On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling at Vesālī in the Great Wood in the Pinnacled Hall.
Then Kokanadā, Pajjunna’s daughter, when the night was far advanced, with surpassing beauty, having illuminated almost the entire Great Wood, approached the Blessed One;
having approached, he paid respect to the Blessed One and stood to one side.
Standing to one side, that deity Kokanadā, Pajjunna’s daughter, spoke these verses in the presence of the Blessed One -
"I worship the Perfectly Enlightened One, the foremost of beings, dwelling in the woods at Vesālī;
Kokanadā am I, Kokanadā, Pajjunna’s daughter.
"Earlier I had only heard that the Teaching has been realized by the One with Vision;
But now I know it as a witness while the Sage, the Fortunate One, teaches.
"Those imprudent people who go about disparaging the noble Teaching
Pass on to the terrible Roruva hell and experience suffering for a long time.
"But those who are endowed with patience and peace regarding the noble Teaching,
On discarding the human body, will fill the host of gods."
