"There are, monks, these five higher mental fetters.
Which five?
Lust for fine-material existence, lust for immaterial existence, conceit, restlessness, ignorance -
these, monks, are the five higher mental fetters.
For the direct knowledge, full understanding, utter elimination, and abandoning of these five higher mental fetters, the five powers are to be developed.
Which five?
Here, monks, a monk develops the power of faith, etc.
he develops the power of wisdom, with the removal of lust as its final goal, with the removal of hate as its final goal, with the removal of delusion as its final goal.
For the direct knowledge, full understanding, utter elimination, and abandoning of these five higher mental fetters, these five powers are to be developed."
