At Sāvatthī.
"I will teach you, monks, the holy life and the purpose of the holy life.
Listen to that.
And what, monks, is the holy life?
It is just this noble eightfold path, as follows -
right view, etc.
right concentration.
This is called, monks, the holy life.
And what, monks, is the purpose of the holy life?
That which, monks, is the elimination of lust, the elimination of hate, the elimination of delusion -
this is called, monks, the purpose of the holy life."
