The Discourse on Dīghalaṭṭhi
94.
Thus have I heard -
On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling at Rājagaha in the Bamboo Grove, the Squirrels' Feeding Ground.
Then Dīghalaṭṭhi the young god, when the night was far advanced, with surpassing beauty, having illuminated almost the entire Bamboo Grove, approached the Blessed One;
having approached, he paid respect to the Blessed One and stood to one side.
Standing to one side, Dīghalaṭṭhi the young god spoke this verse in the presence of the Blessed One:
"A monk should be a meditator with liberated mind,
If he wishes for the attainment of the heart;
Having known the rise and fall of the world,
Of good mind, independent - that is his benefit."
