The earlier origin.
"There are, monks, these five faculties.
Which five?
The faith faculty, the energy faculty, the mindfulness faculty, the concentration faculty, the wisdom faculty -
these, monks, are the five faculties.
In how many ways and in what sense should these five faculties be seen?
These five faculties should be seen in six ways and in that sense -
in the sense of authority, in the sense of purifying the beginning, in the sense of exceeding, in the sense of determination, in the sense of exhaustion, in the sense of establishing."
